There is nothing better than time spent nourishing your baby; sometimes you awesome mamas need some love, comfort & nutrition too.
This week I've been supporting a new mum and dad while they get to grips with the whole new world of parenting. Their gorgeous baby boy lost more weight than expected and his mama is needing to express/pump to keep her supply up and offer him top-ups until they can get to the tongue-tie practitioner.
Some foods, known as galactogogues (gu-lak-tu-gogs), can support lactation and so while this super-women mama is doing 'all the things' to protect her milk supply, I wanted to gift her with some tasty treats that will also help her on her mission.
She LOVES them and said I absolutely needed to share the recipe... so here it is :-)
These lactation cookies are not only healthy and nutritious, but totally delicious and packed full of the good stuff to help increase your milk production.
You will need:
1/4 cup ground flax seeds + 1/2 cup water mixed in a large bowl.
Add 6 tablespoons of melted coconut oil, 2/3 cup of brown sugar, 1/4 cup of bread yeast, 1 teaspoon vanilla essence, 1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda, pinch of salt and mix it all really well.
Stir in 2 cups of oat flour, 1/2 cup of rolled oats and 1/2 cup of dark chocolate-chips/cranberries/raisins/seeds/whatever you feel like, and have on hand.
Spoon dollops of the mixture onto a greased baking tray and pop into a pre-heated oven at 170 degrees celsius for 10 minutes.
Once baked, leave on the baking tray for 10 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
Store in an air tight container in the fridge, and ENJOY.
